Food allergy is a serious medical condition affecting up to 15 million people in the United States, including 1 in 13 children. A food allergy results when the immune system mistakenly targets a harmless food protein – an allergen – as a threat and attacks it. All food service operations have an obligation to see that the food it serves and the environment that it is served in is safe for any and all people who suffer from allergens. At this time allergen training is not mandatory though a few states do require training. As always check with your local jurisdiction as to your local requirements.
ATTENTION: If you live or work near or close to a state border, check neighboring states for additional available classes. Always remember to make sure that particular classes and/or exams are accepted by your local jurisdiction or company.
